Input And Output Devices

15 Input Devices 10 Output Devices Devices Work As Both Input And Output  Modem Network card Touch Screen Headsets Facsimile (FAX) Modem  - As we know that analog signals transfer in phone line but computer understands only digital signals, so to convert the analog signals into the digital signal and vice-versa modem is used. Modem is considered as both input and output device. Network  Card -  A  Network  card (also known as a  NIC or   network interface card ) is an electronic device that connects a computer to a computer  network. With the help of NIC data we receive and send data so NIC works as both input and output device. Touch Screen  –  A touchscreen is a both input and output device and normally layered on the top of an electronic visual displays such as cell phone, laptop. A user can give input or control the information through simple or multi-touch gestures by touching the screen. Headset  - Headset consists of Speakers and Micr

What Is Computer Definition

Computer

Computer is the most versatile electronic machine man has ever created. Computers have made a great impact on our everyday life. Their presence is felt in almost every walk of life be it Homes, Schools, Colleges, Offices, Industries, Hospitals, Banks, Retail stores, Railways, Research and Design Organizations etc.

The word Computer comes from the Greek word ‘compute which means ‘to calculate’. So a computer is normally considered to be a calculating device that can perform Arithmetical & Logical operations at very fast speed.

A Computer can, not only store and process data but also retrieve data i.e. take out data from its memory or storage as and when desired. Thus, Computer is a general term that refers to an Electronic Data Processing Machine used for a wide range of activities.

Computer

The Characteristics of Computer

1.It has ability to perform calculations at a fast speed.

2.It has ability to store information for future retrieval.

3.It has ability to solve Arithmetical & Logical calculations.

4.It can carry out computations and analysis accurately and speedily.

5.It has ability to communicate with other computer systems.

Functioning of a computer is performed in the following 5 steps:

Inputting: The process of entering the data in to the computer through the keyboard or mouse is known as Inputting.

Storing: The process of holding of data and instructions in the computer’s main memory is known as Storing of data.

Processing: The process of performing operations or manipulation of data entered in to the computer is known as Processing.

OutputtingThe process of showing the information or result on the output device to the user is known as Output.

ControllingThe task of directing all the above processes in coordination is known as Controlling. This is done by CU (Control Unit) in the Central Processing Unit (CPU).

COMPUTER SYSTEM

The computer system consists of three parts:
1.    Hardware
2.    Software
3.    User

1). HARDWARE - The Physical portion of computer system is known as Hardware. It can be touched or feel. For ex – Monitor, CPU, Keyboard and Mouse etc.

Motherboard

2). SOFTWARE - The logical portion of computer system is known as Software. For ex – Paint, Notepad, WordPad, Ms-Word, Ms-Excel etc. It cannot be touched.

Software

3). USER - User means operator.
