Functions of Output Devices
Monitor – Monitor is a common output device which is used to display information in pictorial form. Monitors are available in different sizes like 15”, 17”, 19”, 21” etc. Monitors were formerly known as visual display units (VDU).
Types of Computer Monitor
LCD - Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) works on TFT (Thin Film Transistor) technology. Which is now the dominant technology used for computer monitors.
CRT -
Older monitors used a Cathode Ray Tube (CRT).
Printer – Printer is used to display graphics or text, usually on paper. It is used to take hard copies of our information. Hard copy means print out on the paper. Nowadays wireless printers are more popular.

Speaker – Speaker gives output in the form of Sound. Speaker converts an electrical audio signal into a corresponding sound .Uses of speaker in computer is to listen songs, movies etc.
Plotter – Plotter is used print good quality graphics and drawings under control of the computer. A plotter produces vector graphics drawings. They are mainly used to create complex drawings and used by Engineers & Architects.

Projector – Projector is connected to the PC and used to project information such as image, video or text from a computer on to a projection screen.
Speech Synthesizer – Speech Synthesizer converts textual data into spoken sentences. To produce the speech, basic sound units are combined. Google text-to-speech is the best example.
Headphone - Headphone convert an electrical signal to a corresponding sound. A headphone allows a single user listen to an audio source privately. Headphones are also known as earspeakers, earphones, earbuds or earpieces. Headphones are available in both wired and wireless form.
GPS – Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based system that provides geolocation to a GPS receiver anywhere on the earth. A GPS receiver in your phone listen signals. Once the receiver calculates its distance from four or more GPS satellites, it can figure out where you are. Most popular application of GPS is google map.
Touch Screen - A touchscreen is a both input and output device and normally layered on the top of an electronic visual displays such as cell phone, laptop. A user can give input or control the information through simple or multi-touch gestures by touching the screen.
Modem - As we know that analog signals transfer in phone line but computer understands only digital signals, so to convert the analog signals into the digital signal and vice-versa modem is used. Modem is considered as both input and output device.
